About Us
Mr Barber, Woodfield's Director, started as a trainee Mechanical Engineer then progressed to Ground-work Construction driver and owned his own JCB machine; He then went into partnership with Mr Alf Horn and they owned a company called H & B PLANT, which was a Demolition/Plant Hire Company until the firm was sold in 1987.
(H & B Plant hire is still trading today in the Portsmouth area).
Mr Alf Horn retired in 1987 and Woodfield Builders traded for 22 years and solely run by Leonard John Barber since 1981. Mr Barber is a Developer/Builder, which comprises of New Flats and Houses. Land will be purchased for re-development where possible or contracts with existing landowners will be developed. All Demolition for clearing sites before developments is also carried out by Woodfield Builders. On rare occasion's groundwork such as Lorry Parks, Re-Cycling Waste Stations, Paths and Drives, Building Extensions or footings are taken on in between larger developments. Three full time employees are employed and all other labour is sub-contracted in as and when required. The business is a small family concern headed by Mr Barber Senior the Director.
Mr Barber's son Gary is employed as Site Foreman/Operative; Mr Barber's wife Marie Barber is the Office/Accounts Manager/Company Secretary. Sub-Contractor's include Plasterers, Electrical fitters, Plumbers, Roofers, Brick and Block-work, Carpenters, Painters & Labourers etc. Mr Barber Senior and Junior carry out the groundwork as they hold CPCS Certificates in this field and also Demolition as they both hold Certificates of Demolition Operatives and Construction Plant Operators of which one is Managerial, which is periodically updated. They also hold Certificates for Skilled Carpenter & Joiners, Skilled Plasterers, Skilled Roof Slater and Tiler, Skilled Bricklayers & First Aid.
Woodfield Builders Waterlooville Limited was formed 10th July 2002.
Leonard Barber trading as a sole trader ceased 30th November 2002 and Woodfield Builders Waterlooville Limited started trading 1st December 2002. Leonard Barber is the Director and Marie Barber is the Company Secretary. Gary Barber became a shareholder April 2005.
Family Concern
Woodfield Builders was established in 1981 and Woodfield Builders Waterlooville Limited was established in 2002.
The business is a small family concern headed by Mr Barber Senior the Director. Mr Barber's son Gary is employed as Site Foreman/Operative and is a shareholder along with Mr Barber Senior's wife Marie Barber the office/Accounts Manager/Company Secretary.

A personal and professional service has won us customers which include private clients and Housing Associations. The company's memberships have included NHBC, CITB, Zurich and Hallmark.
Looking After the Local Community
Woodfield builders Waterlooville Limited are the main sponsors for two local sports. Portsmouth Amateur Boxing Club who produced a second timer ABA Champion John Creamer & The Alexandra Bowling & Social Club.
Clients of the Company
Where possible Land is purchased and developed and sold to individual purchasers.
A management company is formed and registered with company house as a non-profit organisation to enable bills to be paid along the way which may occur as communal lighting, gardening, bin hire, hall and stair cleaning and other minor items arise. The management company is handed over to the purchasers on completion of the last flat in the block sold and the purchasers run the management company from that date.
Housing Associations and Individual Land Owners who require their land to be developed or re-developed are also clients of Woodfield Builders.
Our Fixed Assets
Woodfield Builders Waterlooville Limited is virtually self sufficient in owning Plant large and small for groundwork. Large and small cutting tools and most building tools. A mobile site hut for Sub-Contractors, a mobile office and lockable containers for storage and toilet facilities are always provided on our sites.
